Survivor Finds Spiritual Solace While Recovering from a Stroke

On that momentous day, in June of 2011, Erica Tucci was standing in her living room, getting ready to walk out the door to go to work. Instead, she collapsed onto the floor and couldn’t get up. No warning, no signs, no symptoms, just a single belly flop onto the floor.

Stroke survivor Erica TucciAn ambulance whisked her away to the hospital where she stayed for a week. She was diagnosed with a stroke and remained in the hospital for a week while they ran a gamut of tests to find out the cause. They found a hole in her heart, which had allowed a blood clot to pass through and cause an ischemic stroke.

The stroke was profound, but the effects were reduced by the use of a tissue plasminogen activator. TPA is a medicine that, if administered 3 to 4.5 hours after a stroke, minimizes the effect of the condition. They call it the “clot blaster,” and it reduced the devastating situation substantially for Erica. She was left hemiplegic on the right side and with slight speech, cognitive and visual disturbances.

Before her stroke, Erica was seemingly in great condition. She was slender, she worked out at least three times a week and had none of the risk factors that would lead up to stroke. So why did it happen? During the course of her recovery, she began to suspect that there had been a karmic cause behind her stroke.

Erica began to realize that her life had previously been out of balance. She had always been aggressive, ambitious, controlling, and ego-based, while suppressing her more heart-centric feminine side. Erica set out to achieve balance within and without herself, working to recover from her stroke and achieve inner harmony.

As she became whole on a psychological level, physically she began to recover the right side of her body. She concluded that it was her stroke that allowed her to find her inner balance so she could live from the center of her being, from her true essence.
