New App Helps Stroke Survivors and Caregivers Manage Medicines

For stroke survivors prescribed a cocktail of medications, taking pills on a daily basis can get complicated. Missing a dose or taking certain medications twice can result in dangerous and expensive medical emergencies. Survivors and caregivers can now simplify the task of managing medical schedules with the new MediSafe Project Mobile App.

The MediSafe Project is a free app for mobile devices that reminds users when it’s time to take their medication. If a dose is missed, the app will send an alert to selected friends, family members or caretakers. The interface is designed to resemble an interactive pillbox, making it easy for visually impaired or technology resistant stroke survivors to use and understand.

For the products creators, inspiration for the app came after their father suffered from an accidental insulin double-dose. They created the MediSafe Project to prevent these easy accidents from affecting families everywhere.

The MediSafe Project also has a feature that enables users to type in the names of their medication, or scan the barcodes, and receive accurate medical information from the FDA Drug Database. This is particularly useful for stroke survivors that are interested in learning about potential side effects of medications or the compatibility of particular medications.

The MediSafe Project app is available for free for apple products and Androids.

Your Care Calendar

Organizing a daily plan of care can be essential for managing life after stroke. For caregivers, an organized plan of care makes it possible to juggle the responsibilities of multiple persons. For stroke survivors, an organized plan of care can make the activities of daily living easier to manage, understand and execute.

Using a tool, like this online calendar, makes it easier to coordinate volunteers for individuals throughout your community to pitch in and help. Friends and family can browse tasks from doctor’s appointments to house chores and volunteer at their convenience.
